This is the second of three songs I recorded with my band "Brotherhood of Sleep" featuring 3 of my dearest friends and among the most talented musicians I've had the honor to perform with: Bailey Jaramillo, Carm Sciarrotta, and David Thomas. Sadly, Bailey passed in 2019 and Carm passed in 2021. Their memory lives on through their music and I miss them every time I hear these songs. I also had the great honor to record and produce these songs under the masterful work of Eric Larson who passed in 2005. I have been truly blessed to have collaborated with these wonderful people.
This was one of the rare songs I wrote on guitar. This is probably the darkest song I ever wrote, and when I wrote the lyrics, my girlfriend at the time found them and was genuinely concerned for my mental health! I assured her I would be ok and so far, that's been true. Bailey poured so much emotion into the guitar lead, Carm's drums were perfectly complementary of the emotional landscape, and David's genius bass playing cemented the mood. You'll hear a piano under the second guitar lead that, when I hear it, feels like ghosts crying along with the song--gives me chills!
